Art and life intertwine in the work of Marc Chagall (1887- 1985). The artist's biographical journey spans almost a century and personal events intersect with the great and dramatic events of the history of the twentieth century. Private and common elements that intertwine in his painting, evoked by symbols, characters and presences in a surreal, visionary and powerful figuration. Childhood, love, the Jewish religion, legends, persecutions, revolution and war appear in the paintings and graphic works of his vast production, an essay of which is on display at the Mudec with a selection of 100 works from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Drawings, illustrations, engravings and lithographs divided into sections that refer to the phases of his life: from Vitebsk permeated by Jewish and Yiddish culture, to the nostalgic bond with his wife Bella; from sources of inspiration, such as the Bible, to the move to France marked by the triumph of color and fruitful contact with the innovations of the avant-gardes.
